Jørgen Vig Knudstorp

Joining Lego in 2001, former McKinsey consultant Jørgen Vig Knudstorp was named CEO in 2004 taking the helm from Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen whose grandfather founded the Lego company in 1932. Knudstorp’s has not only turned the failing family business back to profit, but radically transformed the way the company approaches industry.

Still run from the tiny town in the depths of Denmark whose population doubles every day when people come to work at the company, Lego’s isolation from other industries and the lack of pressure from the family-owners of the firm meant productivity and efficiency were not always what they should be.

Knudstorp has not only strengthened the business through the workforce, but also sold off many of the additional areas the company had strayed into and instead refocused the company on its core offering of creating a toy that has been – and still is – loved by people around the world.
